Though math may be my first love, my natural curiosity for the world around me has led to many varied interests: from camping to painting to cooking to carpentry to screenwriting to city planning. My passions may be disparate, but they allow me to draw up real-life examples for abstract questions, making them more accessible to students. 'But I'll never need to use this stuff in real life' is a refrain I'm not afraid to challenge. I hope to give students a new perspective on not just the importance, but the utility and beauty of math, no matter what field they plan to go into. I've worked closely with kids, teens, and college students in several capacities: as a Big Sister, an advisor to a youth Venturing Crew, a technical director for high-school theater productions, and a Resident Advisor (RA) to college freshmen.
