I am a recent graduate of Wagner College who received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in French. I am currently a RN at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in the Pediatric ICU and come with fresh experience in NCLEX/TEAS test prep and clinical fieldwork. I have tutored students in the past with Kumon, in private, and while in university, so I'm very familiar working with students of all ages (children and adults alike), and very excited to begin work with Varsity Tutors! I always make sure to have fun and involve students in lessons so that the subjects are more relatable to students and they can find personal ways to engage with the topics taught. Although I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about French language and culture, particularly francophone tradition, food, and celebration. My trips to France really kept my French knowledge and interests alive.

I'm a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Political Science and Urban Studies with a minor in French. Education is what I believe to be the key to success and the door that opens up a better tomorrow. I'm New York City born and raised. I graduated from the University of Chicago last year with a degree in East Asian Languages and Civilizations. I am developing my own teaching methods to evolve traditional East Asian and French language acquisition, and to do this I need even more experience. My course of study has been directed at learning as much as I can about the culture, economy, and history of East Asia, China and Japan in particular. I view myself as someone who is entrepreneurial, collegial, individually motivated to produce high quality work, as well as foster a love of the subject which I teach. I am compassionate and enjoy working with both children and adults. I believe I have something to learn from everyone I meet.

I am a third-year undergraduate student at Carnegie Mellon University studying Voice and Opera Performance with minors in Music Education and French and Francophone Studies. I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a bachelor's degree in psychology and linguistics. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology at Teachers College, Columbia University. In the past, I have worked as a teacher's aide in a public school classroom, a mentor to middle school girls, an instructor and tutor at the literacy education organization 826, and a summer camp counselor. I tutor a diverse range of subjects, and I find that I especially enjoy tutoring language arts, reading, and writing at all levels, from elementary school all the way up to college/grad school test prep. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Public Health at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. I received my B.A. in Psychology and Environmental Studies at Wesleyan University. In high school, I was selected by my teachers to tutor classmates in Chemistry, Physics, and Geometry. I helped students with homework problems and with test preparation (both for in-class exams and for the SAT Subject Tests). As an undergraduate, I was a teaching assistant for introductory Russian, and worked with students both in group and in individual sessions.

Nine years of French study and two immersive experiences in France — one in Brest and one at Université de Vincennes Saint-Denis in Paris — gave Clancy the kind of cultural fluency the AP French exam demands. The AP French exam punishes students who can summarize but can't argue — the persuasive essay and cultural comparison require precise command of subjunctive mood, transitional phrasing, and thematic analysis. Ariel teaches students to build those skills together so that grammar serves communication rather than existing as a separate exercise.

I am a graduate of the Ohio State University, where I completed a BA summa cum laude in linguistics and Romance studies with specializations in French, Spanish, and Italian. I then completed a JD at Cornell University, where I used my language skills to focus on international and comparative law, as well as developing particular skills in criminal law and general trial advocacy. In addition, I spent a year in France at the Universit Paris 1 Panthon-Sorbonne, where I obtained an LLM (master of laws) in French, European, and international law. Outside of academia, I have worked as a document translator and an in-court interpreter in both French and Spanish and have worked directly with French- and Spanish-speaking clients in legal and financial settings. As an undergraduate student, I was French-language liaison to the Modern Languages and Cultures Undergraduate Council, in which position I oversaw tutoring sessions, organized conversation and culture hours, and represented the interests of Francophone students and French learners at Council meetings. In addition, I co-directed an outreach program to local elementary schools, teaching both French and Spanish to children in grades K-4. On the legal side, I have worked in immigration, contract, family, and criminal law, and have been a teaching assistant for legal courses and served as a graduate-student mentor for pre-law students.

Computer engineering majors don't usually double-major in French — but Sasha did, which means her fluency was built through rigorous academic study alongside native-level coursework rather than casual exposure. I am a junior at Vanderbilt University studying Economics and Math, and I intend to get my PhD in Economics after graduating. Taking the GRE was the first step of my graduate admissions process, and I want to help others achieve similar success so that they can pursue their dreams. In addition, I enjoy tutoring economics and chemistry, as those are my favorite subjects. During my spare time, I like to play cello, read, and bake pies (especially peach pie).

I am proud to say that the eleven-year-old Vietnamese girl and boy that I tutored for 5 years are both attending Medical school. In addition, I am proud to say that I speak, write and read in French, English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Italian proficiently. Whenever I tell people that I speak French, they often assume that it is not my mother tongue language because I have no accent in English. I am always proud to say that I did not know how to speak English until I was 16 years of age. Learning a language is like cracking a secret code. Once you decode it, the treasure is yours.

I am a PhD student at the University of Michigan, studying social psychology. Before this, I was at Duke University completing a BS in psychology as well as a MS in global health. My research combines the fields of global health and psychology by examining the effects of culture on self-related psychological processes. I hope to continue in academia to become a professor of psychology, as teaching is among my greatest passions.
