I love teaching students because I love how creative students can be when it comes to solving problems. I graduated with my Associate in Science from Houston Community College and I am currently going to Unity College for my B.S. in Marine Biology. I currently work as an ESL para for 7th and 8th graders. I will be tutoring all math and reading up until high school. I personally love tutoring math more because even though it can be a tricky subject but I am known for looking at problems through a new angle and try and creating new ways on how to solve the problem.

While in school, I began a non-profit called "MyCivics" where we specialized in tutoring students in the social sciences such as politics, government, history and other areas. Currently, I am in school for my Ph.D. in Public Policy and work full-time in local government as a public administrator.Why do people make the decisions that they make? That's the question that I have dedicated to spending my career hoping to answer. As a student of politics and government, it is my job to not only learn, but also help others learn about the decision-making processes that affect their lives every day. I find that humor is often a great pathway to making a personal connection and establishing trust.My husband and I own an instructional baseball business where, in addition to helping students perfect their baseball skills, we mentor players who are striving to play baseball in high school, college and on the professional level. I have three children who have either graduated or are currently attending top colleges and universities - Boston University, Amherst College, Columbia University Business School.

I want to be able to apply my mathematics skills that I have advanced throughout my University years and help as many people that I can! My experience in education spans multiple formats such as counselor for summer research camps, teaching assistant for college courses, tutor for college courses, and dance instructor. These different positions have pushed me to broaden my perspective on how to communicate with students and address the topics they do not understand. While my educational background has more than prepared me to understand the basics of the science subjects that my students were studying, my goal as an instructor reaches beyond simply teaching the lesson; I also aim to spark my student's interests in the subject and make the lesson fun for them. I know from personal experience that learning any lesson is easier when one is interested and enjoys the learning experience. To that effect, I use concepts and analogies that relate to the students and grab their interests, and this relation may be from other topics or courses they have previously studied or an experience they come across on a daily basis. The latter is especially effective since that daily experience would serve to reinforce the lessons for the students and commit it to memory. These techniques, along with others, work well for tutoring since we often must cover a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time.

I knew I was a linguist at a young age. I loved to spell and learn the meanings of words in English but that developed to other languages too. Learning Spanish became not just an elective class that I had to take but it became a lifelong learning passion. Growing up in the southwest of the United States, I started learning Spanish at age 9 in the classroom; went on my first student exchange at 10; continued taking Spanish throughout high school and completed a minor in my undergraduate degree. I went on to serve in the Peace Corps in Ecuador and then returned to teach Spanish to high school students as a long-term substitute teacher. I enjoy speaking Spanish and tutoring others to grow to enjoy the language too.

I've taken many dual enrollment math courses at local colleges, including Calculus 1,2, and 3, as well as linear algebra. I also do a lot of test prep, as I've actually taken the SAT 5 times and scored a 1590, so I'm very used to standardized testing. I love helping people, so I hope I can help you!
