I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University and have been tutoring since I was a freshman in high school. I love working with elementary and middle school students, but also have the knowledge and skills to tutor high school students in AP classes and standardized tests. I scored a 35 on my ACT (36 math, 35 english, 35 science, 33 reading), a 770 on the Math II SAT subject test and a 780 on the Chemistry SAT subject test. In high school, I took AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP Physics C, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, and Multivariable Calculus, and scored a 5 on every AP exam. In addition to specific subject matter, I am highly knowledgable on the college process and know how to strategize to get into your dream school!

I am originally from Evanston, IL. I just recently graduated from Brown University with a degree in Music Theory/History/Composition and am about to embark on a master's program at NYU in musical theatre writing. I am a graduate of Brown University, where I earned my B.A. in Literary Arts and Visual Arts, taking courses in a wide array of subjects ranging from contemporary American fiction to ancient Indian classics. My first teaching experience came in college when I had the privilege of creating and teaching a series of literature courses at a local community center. I am a current Sophomore at Brown University, studying History for my Bachelor of Arts degree. I am most passionate about math though, because it can be related to any subject, and because the skills that are developed through mathematical thinking can help create success in other areas. I try to use multiple approaches while teaching, and present ideas as visually and tangibly as possible. One of the dangers of learning math is that students memorize the method for solving a problem but do not realize the underlying concepts. I do my best to ensure that students recognize the broader concepts. Because math builds on itself, it is also very important to look at past topics that relate to students’ current lessons. There is not always time for teachers do this in a classroom setting. Often you’ll find that a student’s struggles come from missing previous skills that are assumed as their lessons advance. My ultimate goal is to help students build their confidence with math and to set them up for success in their future studies, whether those studies are directly or indirectly related.

I am able to tutor a broad range of subjects, and across a wide-range of grade-levels, I am most proud of and most passionate about my work in literacy. Creating a joyful community of reading and writing - whether for an entire school, or for a small group - has provided me with my greatest sense of accomplishment (and my fondest memories!) Currently, I study how stellar environment affects the gaseous disks around baby stars that may be forming planets (Yep & White 2020, The Astrophysical Journal, Volume 889, Issue 1, id. 50).
