Summer Tutoring review by Megen in Oak Forest, IL
Today we covered reading, writing, and math. We built a basic sentence, which he had to read, write, and then draw a related picture. We worked on the blend /ch/ and long vowel /oo/. He had to read two books that had this blend and vowel sound. He also worked on more addition with dice.

Summer Tutoring review by Ahad in Oak Forest, IL
The first student completed the homework assignment where students were asked to show specified times (for example "half past seven") on an analog clock by drawing the hour and minute hands. The assignment also called for students to count money in terms of pennies, nickels, and dimes, and to convert the amounts into other coins. We reviewed sight words until he could go through the list and recognize all the words in one try, and marked words that he had trouble with by drawing a dot to the left of the word. His practice is paying off, as I saw a significant improvement (especially in confidence) from last week. Finally, we read aloud two stories from "Garfield's Ghost Stories" in honor of the upcoming Halloween holiday. My other student finished math homework. She found the perimeter of different shapes by adding the lengths of the sides. She completed number patterns that called for students to fill in the blanks of missing numbers by adding and subtracting a common amount. She solved word problems by finding the sum or difference of two distances to figure out the total distance traveled.

The student and I reviewed math, particularly focusing on solving systems of equations using substitution and elimination. She was able to latch right on conceptually and understood what to do. We then reviewed science, focusing on types of chemical reactions and balancing equations.

We went over the student' review packet for her math test next week until I was satisfied with her knowledge of the concepts. Then I went a bit further into quadratic equations. She is keeping up very well with these difficult math concepts.

Summer Tutoring review by Cherie in Oak Forest, IL
We studied for the student's test in Social Studies, on the Industrial Revolution. I created flash cards on the key terms while he worked to memorize the answers on his study guide. Then he, once again, proved he is a superstar at memorization: he committed all of my flash cards to memory in a matter of 20 minutes! We spent the rest of the session discussing the study guide questions. Good news: the student achieved 95% on his Science Test!
