How can a tutor help you with summer tutoring?

While summer may be an excellent way for students to receive the downtime they need to prepare for another school year, it may also lead to significant learning loss. Students who struggled throughout the semester risk performing poorly in the following school year if they don't spend a few hours per week reviewing previously learned material. For this reason, summer tutoring sessions are an excellent way to ensure that students stay sharp academically. If you are the parent of a child in grade school who could benefit from one-on-one sessions in reading, math, and various other subjects, contact Varsity Tutors. We may help you find expert summer tutor in Columbus, OH, who may try to help your student make the most of your their study time.

An expert summer tutor in Columbus may help your child reach their maximum potential. Your student may be able to review material in a student-centered way that promotes active learning. Their tutor is able to guide them through various topics, like reading comprehension and arithmetic, so that they are able to prepare for success for the upcoming school year. Reviewing with a private tutor is an excellent way for them to study in a manner that allows for meaningful discussions and important feedback, thus ensuring that your child is able to grow and learn from any mistakes they have made.

Session Summaries by Summer Tutors

Summer Tutoring review by Melissa in Columbus, OH
The student and I had a great first session! We split the session into 2 45-minute segments. The first 45 minutes we worked on math. We were able to get through 4 separate sections (1 dealing with multiplying integers; 1 dealing with order of operations; 1 dealing with fractions; the last dealing with fractions and decimals). He did well on all sheets, and I reminded him that he can always use the LCD if he's unsure about which fraction is larger when making comparisons. He caught on well to the fact that when the sign is the same for integers, the result is positive. If the signs are opposite, the result is negative. The second 45 minutes we worked on grammar. We reviewed direct/indirect objects, transitive/intransitive sentences, helping, action, and linking verbs, and briefly touched on adjectives/adverbs and prepositional phrases. Very great session!

Summer Tutoring review by Joaquin in Columbus, OH
In this session we introduced a new five finger pattern in the white keys: d minor. We also discussed and learned how to notate it in the grand staff. We practiced the chord progression for the pop song. On guitar, we clapped new rhythms and then we started slowly playing those rhythms with the chords we learned last class. The student has started recording in the computer using software. He learned the basics of recording, playing back, creating a new track, deleting, and choosing a software instrument. He seemed very interested in learning more. We will use this for homework and for recording the pop song.

Summer Tutoring review by Peter in Columbus, OH
The student and I spoke about anticoagulants, which thin blood; angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which lower blood pressure, and nitrate and direct acting vasodilators, which also lower blood pressure. We learned about the blood coagulation cascade, and where different anticoagulants act in that cascade to block coagulation. The angiotensin pathway causes vasoconstriction, which leads to higher blood pressure. ARBs and ACE inhibitors interact with the angiotensin pathway causing the opposite effect and lowering blood pressure. The student comprehends all of these ideas well and should do well on her upcoming exam.

Summer Tutoring review by Jazmyn in Columbus, OH
Today the student and I worked on her literature review. Mostly we worked on formatting the paper in APA and avoiding plagiarism. We worked on how to do an in-text citation within her paper. She needed a little more organization in her literature review and should focus on a few specific articles and synthesize them.

Summer Tutoring review by Adrian in Columbus, OH
The student and I reviewed his grades for the last two weeks. We also answered questions to his study guides and identified questions that needed more addressing in future classes. Next week we will continue answering these and further questions along with reviewing his notes, calendar, and study plans.

Summer Tutoring review by Anna in Columbus, OH
The student feels that she takes longer than she should to complete assignments. Our plan is to work on her calendar management and organization to make her work time more manageable. Additionally, we plan to go through some assignments together so that I can see her general approach to schoolwork. We started building her a Google Calendar. She has never tried to use it before, and seems happy with the features. I think we can probably optimize it to be the organizational tool that she needs. Our next goal is to fully fill out her calendar, then we will start looking at her work habits.
