I am currently an attorney in private practice, but have not lost my love of learning and my love of teaching. Tutoring is now my outlet for those passions.

I received my bachelor's in Math and Psychology at UCLA, Ph.D. work in Engineering at Virginia Tech, and MBA in Marketing and New Venture Management at USC. I am currently completing graduate study in musicology at the University of Illinois. My research focuses on hip hop music and political life in Morocco. When I am not pursuing my own project, I am usually teaching. I have served as a graduate teaching assistant for U of I's Introduction to World Music course for two years. Before attending graduate school, I worked as a certified substitute teacher for K-12 general and special education in Michigan. I also volunteered as a literacy tutor with the Family Learning Institute in Ann Arbor, MI. While I am comfortable tutoring in a wide range of humanities and language arts subjects, I am most passionate about teaching English and reading comprehension. I believe students' advancements in these subjects positively impact all other academic areas. Every student can build confidence in reading and writing, and have fun doing it. I see education as a collaborative effort and I work to bring my students' personal perspectives into our lessons. Watching a student learn new things is exciting, but seeing them recognize the power of their own knowledge and experiences is even better! In my spare time, I enjoy making and listening to music of all kinds, reading and writing science fiction, running long distances (slowly), and spending a lot of time outdoors.

I am taking some time off to work, but I plan to return to school in the next few years to obtain a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology. While in college, I volunteered with the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, an organization that brings Penn students into Philly's inner city to tutor low-income middle school students. I found the experience deeply rewarding and my time with WPTP nurtured an interest in working with children professionally. I tutor a wide variety of subjects including English, writing, history, SAT Reading/Writing, French and more! My favorite subject to teach is history. The subject is often viewed by students as boring and unnecessary (along the lines of, "why should I learn something that happened already?"); in my view, history is alive and full of useful lessons that can be applied at the personal, national and societal levels, and I enjoy teaching this point of view to students, helping them to see history as a living, deeply relevant subject matter.

I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago. While there, I majored in Economics and minored in International Studies with a focus in International Political Economy and Development. Beyond these classes, I also had a healthy, eclectic interest in a wide range of subject areas including Multivariable Calculus, Physics, and Film. It is also worth noting that I was able to accomplish all of this in three years, rather than four, due to my focus and success on AP tests. Hobbies: books, music, art, reading, writing

I routinely work with individuals with learning or behavioral difficulties, so making the necessary accommodations to aid in learning is second nature to me. I have a dual Bachelor's degree in elementary/collaborative education from Jacksonville State University as well as a Master's degree and Education Specialist degree from the University of West Alabama.

I hold a Level II Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in the following areas: Special Education N-12, Social Studies, Mid-Level Math, and English. I also think it is important that learning is not just for one assignment or one test, but rather that it sticks with you to build a solid foundation of knowledge and confidence that you can carry forward. My favorite subjects to tutor include English, SAT test preparation, math, and psychology. My approach to tutoring is to meet the student where they're at and go from there. I find that this way we can build a productive tutoring relationship where I can help individualize learning to each person's particular learning style. Outside of academic interests, I enjoy cooking, being with friends and family, traveling the world, and looking as ridiculous as possible doing Zumba.
