I enjoy teaching because it allows me the opportunity to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences that assist student learners with discovering their "aha moments." I am currently in graduate school at Hofstra University studying in Health Administration. I graduated from Hofstra with my Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Forensic Science in the Honors Program there. This coupled with my passion for Science and a wide range of topics motivated me to excel. I have experience working with a wide range of students from as young as KG to as old as college aged students, in various fields such as science, mathematics, reading and even test preparation. My name is Kristine, and I graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Chemistry. Science classes were always my favorite when I was in school. I have recently tutored in both Math and Science. In 2010, I taught English in Taiwan to elementary school students.I am a good tutor because I am passionate about helping other people learn. Not only do I enjoy teaching, but I am also a calm and patient tutor. I want to help other people understand the material and also have a good experience while they are learning.

In order to pursue my passion for learning, I chose to study philosophy during my time at Colorado College. Philosophy gave me the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in the wide variety of courses that made up my liberal arts education. Upon graduating, I used those skills to further pursue another passion of mine, rock climbing. I worked as a climbing guide, bringing people from all walks of life into my world and out of their comfort zones. I learned how to gently push people past their fears. I learned how to use a combination of encouragement and technical knowledge to help people reach their goals. I learned how to read people and find the roots of their struggles. Through this, I could discover the best way to approach each individual and create a plan of action that worked best for their unique needs. Through all of this, I learned of my passion for teaching. I went on to start tutoring students and combined both the critical thinking skills and technical knowledge from my degree in philosophy with the teaching skills that I learned from guiding climbing. I worked with students in a variety of subjects from math, to history, to writing. In every subject, I was able to help lead my students into developing their own critical thinking skills. I also encountered some of the same fear that I saw from people 100 feet up a rock face. I used my guiding experience to help one student overcome what had become a debilitating and illogical fear of math in order for her to pass a college placement test (which she had failed many times previously) so that she could go on to pursue her own passion of fashion design. Through all of my experiences, I have continued to pursue my passion for learning, and I hope to cultivate a similar passion in each of my students.

I'm a recent PhD graduate in Bioengineering in the Boston area. My thesis involved nanoparticles and bacterial infections, but as a biomedical engineer I've had training in circuits, mechanics, some programming, chemistry and biology. Tutoring for me is a collaborative effort, following a problem-based learning with questions that will lead the student towards the answer they're looking for while providing a well-rounded understanding of why and how that answer works.

I'm currently a student at CUNY Hunter College working towards a BA/MA in Biotechnology. I always enjoy helping other people learn new skills and overcome challenges in lifestyle, sports, and academia. In my experience, I had amazing tutors and mentors in school, internships, and jobs. I appreciate how much their guidance and support help my growth. They helped challenge me to learn, and explained topics through creative approaches that allowed me to understand. When I teach and tutor, I do my best to employ these qualities. My favorite subjects to tutor are STEM subjects; however, I still enjoy tutoring in a variety of other subjects.
