I'm local to Southgate, Michigan. I grew up in Lincoln Park went to the elementary, middle, and high school there. After that I attended what was Henry Ford Community College which is now just Henry Ford College. Now I am currently a University of Michigan-Dearborn student finishing my degree in education. Now many of you are like, so why do I care about any of this, well heres the thing Im not going to lie to you, students currently arent ready for college, I wasnt ready for it either. College hit me like a truck when I wasnt looking, not cool. I want to make sure your son/daughter is ready for college and not just with the academics portion of it and yes that is important, although I want to help them become mentally ready for the road ahead as well. As many of you know life isnt about how people gain materialistic items, or how so and so can read and write is about the drive that separates us from one to another. The will to want to do something, and the why to do it this is what I want to teach children not only to become better students yet to become better people, and hopefully one day watch them build our future.

While I was earning my bachelor's degree in Professional Writing at the University of Northwestern St. Paul, I tutored students in the English department. I really like reading and writing (it's most of what I do in and out of work) and I enjoy making myself useful by sharing my knowledge with other students. I also enjoy the process and experience of learning, and I like helping others with that process. I tutor English and writing, I help students prepare for tests, and I help with editing and proofreading. My favorite part is editing, because I've gotten pretty good at catching the little things that can trip a writer up and I like helping others learn.

I'm Alex. I've lived in NYC for 7 years and currently live in Downtown Brooklyn. I work in marketing but have a strong background in Speech Language Pathology. I also make ceramics and practice improv, which I believe contribute to my dynamic approach to tutoring.I have a Bachelor of Science from New York University and a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Brooklyn College. Prior to Graduate school I worked as a tutor for children between the ages of 7-12 focused on phonological awareness, reading comprehension, writing skills, and vocabulary. I taught college courses during my time at Brooklyn College in science, public speaking, and an overview of speech language pathology. I love teaching a variety of subject matter in creative ways as I believe true understanding comes when you are truly immersed in a topic. I really enjoy finding activities that encourage individuals to enjoy the tasks that are challenging them by incorporating favorite topics and games.I have experience working with individuals ages 0-99 years old. Through my graduate study I also worked closely with individuals with special needs. I understand that tutoring involves individualizing lesson plans because everyone learns differently. I love finding the methods that work best for my students and seeing the joy that comes from success in the classroom. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!I love teaching English as a second language. Learning a language is frustrating at times but it can also be a lot of fun. I believe the more applications you have with a language and the more engaged you are the better your understanding will be. There are so many creative ways to approach learning a new language and I love working together with my student to find the ways that make it the most enjoyable and effective. I am a graduate of the University of Cambridge (UK) and King's College London (UK). I received my Bachelor of Arts in History and my Master of Arts in Medieval History. Prior to enrolling as an undergraduate, I took college-level coursework and exams in Chemistry, English Literature, History, and Archaeology. As an undergraduate, I tutored middle-school aged children of immigrants in English as a Second Language. I moved to the US in 2011 and shortly afterwards taught Western Civilization to 1500 to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame as a teaching assistant. I worked one-on-one with many students to help them succeed in the class. Since then, I have worked in various positions in higher education and have, at the same time, taken undergraduate coursework in multiple areas of Psychology, as well as in Statistics, and Conflict Transformation Studies. I am now enrolled as a student at Adler University working towards an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As such, I tutor these subjects at the high school and college level (including AP and CLEP, where applicable): History (World, American, European), Literature, English Composition, Psychology, World/Western Civilization, general writing and essay composition, and other humanities subjects. I am also available to tutor GRE Verbal and GRE Analytical Writing. I have had the most fun teaching History in the past, but I am eager to tutor in Psychology as this relates directly to my current graduate studies. I believe that every student needs a unique approach from their tutor, and I would work hard to tailor my teaching to each student's needs. My academic and professional history demonstrates that I believe strongly in the value and power of education in improving the lives of individuals and society. I intend to impart my passion for education and learning to all my students. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, reading, and spending time with my family.

I am a graduate of James Madison University. I double majored in English Literature and Arabic. In college, I started tutoring students of all ages. I assisted them in various areas of study, including essay and Arabic grammar. After college, I worked at a refugee center with children of immigrants. I helped them to adjust to a new environment, while simultaneously adapting to the public school curriculum. I am also a certified ESL/TESOL teacher and have experience teaching groups of students as well as providing individual lessons.Working in different environments, with a diverse range of students, encouraged me to explore more creative tutoring methods in order to understand and communicate ideas. Through my experience as a tutor, I developed a multifaceted approach to teaching and learning; a style that is adaptable and uniquely catered to each individual personality. I have found that humor and games are particularly effective in motivating students to achieve in subjects they may otherwise find dull or abstract. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about languages and literature. I have spent much of my life traveling abroad and have a deep affinity for culture. Some of my hobbies are painting and drawing and playing music; I also love dancing and hiking.

After working for six years as an Upper School Religion Teacher in Greenville, SC, I have worked in Ecuador for the last three years as a teacher and team host with a global missions organization, One Collective. In that time I taught English to Spanish speakers and was certified through a TESOL program.I believe that learning a foreign language opens someone to a world of possibilities working with other cultures and interacting with new people. Similarly, I believe that learning more about religion allows someone to gain a wider perspective of their world and the world of others, fostering empathy, compassion, and peace.
