Basic Computer Literacy Tutor • +18 Subjects
I have Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Sciences, and I have spent the bulk of my adult life working with computers first as a programmer and systems analyst, and then as an instructor of Computer Sciences, Informatics and Information Technology classes. I worked with some of the first professional desktop computers that came out, and computers still interest me in a way that nothing else really does!Although my teaching experience includes many Software Engineering classes, I am still happiest when I am teaching programming classes Visual Basic, Python, C++, HTML, JavaScript and PHP. I love being there when students discover the thrill of making something work on the computer! I also love teaching Introduction to Computing and the History of Computing to beginners, mostly because I found these things so interesting when I was new to the topic. My teaching philosophy is a simple one: I believe that there is always a way to have some fun with learning!

Hello, I'm Emma! I'm excited at the possibility of becoming your tutor! Let's see if we would make a good matchA little about me I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy student at MGH Institute of Health Professions. I recently moved to South Boston from my home state of California to pursue my graduate degree and my ultimate goal of becoming a physical therapist. I graduated from UC Davis in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Biology and a minor in Psychology. My previous tutoring experience includes working as a tutor in the Psychology department at UC Davis, peer tutoring within the Exercise Biology department, and various peer-to-peer tutoring roles. At UC Davis I also worked as an Undergraduate Admissions Advisor where I gained extensive knowledge in college essay writing, and as a Campus Tour Guide where I honed my skill of public speaking. Prior to relocating to Boston I was building my career in physical therapy by working as a physical therapy aide in several outpatient orthopedic clinics and volunteering at the VA Rehabilitation Hospital. I am passionate about the health sciences and helping students achieve their academic goals. I am an original Harry Potter nerd and a sports fanatic. In my leisure time I enjoy being outdoors, watching sports, cooking, community volunteering and playing with dogs! How I can help youI've likely been in your shoes. I've been the student who has been frustrated with difficult assignments and seemingly useless subjects. However, through my partnership with tutors and a passion for knowledge I have acquired a broader context of the sciences and the study skills that have turned learning into an evolving process rather than a memorization task. I would like to share those skills with you and help YOU learn!I can help you:- Balance chemical equations- Understand the function of cells- Solve for 'x' in math problems- Learn human anatomy- Write your essay or speech- Give a successful public presentation- And much more! Please look over the list of subjects that I am available to tutor and contact me to set up your first tutoring session! I will gladly answer any further questions that you have about my qualifications in a direct message. Thank you for considering me to help you achieve academic success, good luck!

I firmly believe in the concept that students learn best about science by doing. For high school students, learning may be start through group discussion in class, assignments, or laboratory exercises. For graduate classes, the learning comes from doing experimental demonstration in classroom or lab. Research is core soul of science. During teaching, my aim to convey my message to undergraduates and all graduate students, choose science (research) for their future careers, science not only brings progress in life also significantly contribute in progress of nation and that possible by today's students and tomorrow's scientists.

I just finished my 3rd year working as a School Psychologist for a metro area school district. I am excited to tutor students of all ages in a variety of academic and test prep areas. I was raised in the U.S. and am a native English speaker with a diverse educational background. I attended preschool through 11th grade in the U.S. and received my high school (international baccalaureate) diploma from an international boarding school in Hong Kong. During college, I studied Mandarin Chinese and Korean. I completed 6 months of study abroad in South Korea. I have extensive 1:1 tutoring experience. In college, I worked as a teacher and private tutor for Korean high school students applying for US colleges. As a graduate student, I served as a reading interventionist for K-4th graders for 2 years. I have previous test prep experience as an ACT class teacher and private tutor for a national company. My most recent tutoring experience was for a high school junior in Minneapolis. We worked on homework completion, mostly for the student's Beginner Mandarin class.

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Notre Dame, and I am working towards a degree in Economics. I have always found math and science to be interesting and was successful in them during high school. These can be some of the most challenging subjects a student can encounter, and I want to make sure any misunderstanding does not lead to disinterest in them. I have found that the calm, cool, methodical, and logical approach is the key to comprehending the material. The benefits of having a solid foundation in these fields are not limited just to skills in math and science, they translate into powerful critical thinking and analytical skills that are extremely useful overall. During my spare time I enjoy running, exercising, and listening to a variety of podcasts.

I received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Northwestern University and currently work in finance. I have always had an interest in teaching and would like to one day teach at a collegiate level. I feel tutoring would be a great way for me to get involved. As I believe each student learns differently, my tutoring style will vary depending on student. What I enjoy most about tutoring is finding different ways to explain the same concept. I also feel that teaching a subject is the ultimate test for the teacher, as the student may ask questions from any angle. It is always a challenge to answer the question in a manner that the student understands.I am primarily interested in tutoring the GMAT as I recently took the GMAT and the test is fresh on my mind. However, I am open to tutoring the SAT and basic levels of math such as Algebra.Outside of tutoring and work, I enjoy playing flag football, volleyball, and going to the occasional rooftop lounge.

I am currently working as a Structural Engineer in New York City. I have a very strong background in Math and Physics and obtained a perfect math score in my college and graduate school entrance exams. The best part of teaching for me is watching a student slowly grasp and understand a subject that once was very foreign to them.

Late in the winter of 2003, I left Baylor University for Spain, where I would spend the next semester studying. When I arrived in Madrid, I was unfamiliar with the city and had to rush to catch the bus that would take me to my university, several hours to the north. Confused, tired and not at all proficient in Spanish, I chose the incorrect station. A kind cab driver, noticing my confusion, insisted he accompany me to find my bus. When it was obvious that I had chosen the wrong station, he took me to the correct station and again accompanied me inside to ensure I found my bus. Over the next four months, I repeatedly encountered such kindness and support from the university and community. These advantages helped improve my fluency rapidly and fostered an interest in linguistics and language, enriching my stay with cultural experiences I would not have otherwise had.I moved on from undergraduate study to a Master of Arts in Publishing and Writing at Emerson College, shifting my focus to design and visual interpretation. As I progressed along my professional track in educational publishing, my mind often returned to my time abroad; I chafed at my inability to regularly use the skills and interests that I acquired in undergraduate study. I also felt disconnected from my community and my frequently returned to my education experiences—particularly those in Spain—which were essential in my personal growth. With that in mind, I made the decision to leave the publishing industry and pursue a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.Ultimately, my degrees will prepare me to work with English Language Learners but I have wide-ranging personal interests and the interdisciplinary degree I received at Baylor University has given me a great foundation for tutoring in a number of subjects. I'm excited about working on students of all ages and levels on reading, writing, literature, and Spanish. I also am interested in helping students develop the organizational habits and study skills essential to academic success. Finally, I love working with students on test prep; giving students the skills they need to demystify exams such as the ACT, SAT or TOEFL is really a rewarding experience. When I'm not tutoring or working toward my degree at UMB, I enjoy spending time with my family—my husband and I have one small, silly dog (eight years) and one small, daughter (six months). I'm working on several knitting projects to keep all three of them warm in the coming winter and riding my bicycle as much as I can while it's still warm!
