How can a GRE tutor help you?

You have decided to go to graduate school after completing college. One important thing you need to do is take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) since most graduate schools require it. Most of the time, you will just need to take the general GRE, though some departments might need you to take a subject-specific one. There are a lot of things to study for before taking the test. You don't have to get overwhelmed. If you are seeking GRE tutoring near Georgetown, Texas, the educational directors at Varsity Tutors could help you connect with a tutor who could help you work towards your academic goals.

The GRE has three sections, which will test your verbal skills, quantitative skills, and analytical writing skills. That last part has you write two essays, one analyzing an issue and the other analyzing an argument. The GRE takes three hours and 45 minutes and is broken up into six sections. It will be administered on a computer and allow time for breaks. You can get between 130-170 on both the verbal and quantitative sections and between 0-6 on the analytical section. The higher you score, the better, and you will be assigned to a percentile based on your results. Contact our educational directors today to try to help you find a professional GRE tutor in Georgetown to potentially help you be at your best on exam day.

Session Summaries by GRE Tutors

Georgetown, TX GRE tutoring
We spent the first half of the section covering specific mathematical issues that the student still needed to go over. Specifically we covered: ratios, percentages, word problems, and geometry. In the second half we covered more verbal reasoning. She is getting better at being able to give a justification for the answers she receives. We agreed to meet next Sunday for the last session before her test.

We spent this session focusing on the 'analyze an argument portion' of the writing section, and the reading passages of the verbal section. The student has progressed very well with the verbal section. His process was going very smoothly and he was going through the correct steps. It was a great opportunity to learn a new wrinkle to the test!

We went through additional math problems from the student's GRE study guide and focused on the ones he had the most difficulty with. Many of the problems involved geometry and trigonometry, so we discussed these topics in detail. He is going to work on a writing section next, so we will review that next time we meet.

Tonight, the student and I worked through more math concepts that will likely appear on the GRE. We worked through a complete practice set on word problems, focusing on those problems in which she encountered difficulties when trying on her own. We discussed the importance of using only one variable in the equations, and writing different quantities in terms of some most basic one, and then finding a point at which different components were equal, at which point an equation could be set up. We then discussed a part of a set of problems on averages, and most of the set of inequalities/equations, going over rough spots in a similar manner. We will continue with more math review next time.
