I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I'm a teacher based based in New York City, but I'm originally from Michigan. I teach Spanish and English as a New Language and I tutor in these and many other subjects. I'm excited to work with you to develop the skills and knowledge you need to succeed!

I started in education in college when I got involved with a tutoring and mentoring program for students learning English as New/Second Language. I loved it and went on to coordinate tutoring programs for two years. After college, I worked in Madrid, Spain as a teacher's assistant and it deepened my passion for education (as well as my passion for flan). When I got back to the US, I decided I wanted to try some other fields before I committed to education. I worked for two and a half years as Spanish-English medical interpreter helping Spanish-speaking patients communicate with their doctors. After that, I worked for an immigration lawyer. Both of these jobs were incredible experiences, but I found the things I got most excited about were the educational parts of the jobs. I loved when I could help a client understand something about the healthcare or legal system that they could continue to use after our appointment.

My love of education confirmed, I went back to school for teaching Spanish and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). My program allowed me to live in Madrid another year and work again as a teacher's assistant. My second year was in New York and that is how I ended up in the "Big Apple".

Outside of work, I love to cook and eat tasty food (especially desserts). I love languages and will speak Spanish any chance I get. I studied Japanese in college as well and even got to study abroad in Japan. Recently, I've been trying to recuperate my Japanese from many years of not practicing. I understand the struggle of learning a language! In college, I did theater and improv and love going to see shows here in New York. Dancing is one of my favorite activities and I am currently learning Salsa. I am the proud uncle of a young nephew and love going back to Michigan to see him whenever I can.
