Certified Tutor

When I first started high school, it was difficult for me to be motivated. I was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and this made it difficult for me to believe in myself. At sophomore year, my GPA was below a 3.0. A change in attitude and study habits allowed me to improve my academic career and life to the point of graduating from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in Psychology.

During my time at UW, I tutored Native American students who struggled with certain classes in high school. Additionally, I also gave guitar lessons to people of a variety of ages and backgrounds. My goal with both tutoring sessions and guitar lessons was to make them fun sources of enrichment instead of cumbersome tasks.

My subjects include English, Reading, Writing, Essay Editing, Public Speaking, Psychology and History. I know essays, speeches, and ACTs in particular can often be intimidating but trust me, they DO NOT have to be!

I don't want to just be a tutor or teacher; I want to be that funny friend who helps you conquer school!

What is your teaching philosophy?

A teacher should not be some mere authority figure who just gives information. A teacher should be a friend who has passion, humor (my favorite), and the ability to make the learning process feel less like a chore.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would spend most, or all, of the first session getting to know the student on a personal level. What are they passionate about? What is their learning style? What are their personal strengths and weaknesses? These kinds of questions are crucial to establishing a connection, and establishing a connection is crucial to making each session not feel like a burden.
