Massiel
Certified Tutor
I am a rising junior at the University of Miami triple majoring in Human and Social Development, International Studies, and Philosophy. I look forward to taking a few years off to work following my undergraduate years to then attend law school and pursue public interest law.
My little brother (7 years my junior) was my first tutoring buddy and assures even today that I get to help build a science fair project board every year. I was also a camp counselor for three summers caring for on average twenty children ages 5-10. Then I began professionally tutoring through my high school when I was sixteen until I was eighteen. I assisted middle schoolers and high schoolers, ages 11-18, on their core subjects: math, reading, social sciences, and physical sciences. I also assisted them in Spanish (all levels), AP classes, PSAT skills, and SAT skills. My greatest strength is assisting students get more organized and take better notes when they are in class to facilitate how they study and practice their material outside the classroom.
I am bubbly, persistent, patient, motivating, and love helping others achieve their potential!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in empowering students by providing them the organizational tools and logistical skills necessary to better retain the information they are taught inside the classroom. Then, we work on demonstrating better practice methods and note-taking methods so that they can effectively review their material outside the classroom. I believe in listening to those I tutor to understand their motivations and their lack of motivations, and then use this information to help them aspire towards self-determination to achieve and surpass their goals! Everyone is capable of this if given the right tools and motivations!
