Helping others learn is a passion of mine. My favorite part is when the student "gets it," and they go through that "aha" moment and realize that it is really that easy. I approach tutoring with two major themes in mind: patience and flexibility. I try to show as much patience as possible because I know that learning a new concept can be frustrating and you can feel embarrassed or nervous when you do not know how to do something. I also believe that flexibility is important because no two people learn the same way. What works for one would not always work for another, so you have to approach each person differently and adapt your teaching method to meet the needs of the individual. As for my experience, I started out helping my classmates in school and have not stopped since. In high school I was an AVID tutor that dealt with good study habits, note taking, and preparation for college. Since then I have done tutoring in both a one-on-one and group basis. I am most comfortable with the sciences and math but can help in other areas.
