Tutoring review by Miguel in Martinez, CA
We spent most of today covering Physics and Algebra. He is currently on factoring trinomials and was shown a rather tedious method of solving them. I taught him a much more consistent and easier way to do it. He finished his work in about half an hour. We then moved on to Physics. Physics is diving into some basics about electricity, voltage, current, and resistance. I spent the rest of the time trying to make it easier to understand what's really happening. He better grasps what these concepts are and also how they might apply to his own interests like guitar fuzz boxes.

Tutoring review by Aunaly in Martinez, CA
The student has a test later this week on parabolas and quadratic equations. We started by going through several word problems that gave a quadratic equation for the height of a given projectile. He was then asked to find the maximum height and how long it took the object to get there. At first, he struggled with finding the maximum height. However, once we talked about how the maximum height is also the vertex and then walked through how to solve for the vertex, he was able to complete the problems. The next set of problems required him to use the quadratic equation to find the x-intercepts. He used the formula easily. The last assignment involved graphing a quadratic equation, which he was able to do as well.

We continued to work on elapsed time. The student is doing well with the concept. We worked on several problems that used the same skill to solve. By the end of the session, she was able to do it on her own.

Today we further explored rational expressions. The student struggled with the material; her biggest issue being accuracy. She often mixes up exponents and signs. In the long run I think that these issues will cause her the most trouble, so I want to focus primarily on them for now. As far as the class goes I am happy with our progress though.

Today, we reviewed geography and did a lot of editing work. For future writing exercises, we are going to work on always writing an outline, however brief, that can be used to give the writing direction and make it seem more logically put together.
