Reviewed rules for creating "ud/uds" commands; reviewed "ud/uds" commands for irregular verbs "ir", "dar", "poner"; practiced exercises with phrases using "por"; practiced vocabulary exercises. The student quickly grasps grammatical concepts, and must work on remembering vocabulary outside of the vocab list he's being tested on.

Spanish Tutoring review by Emily in Reading
Student 1 and I focused on conjugating "AR" verbs as well as the "IR+a+infinitive" structure. She and I had a really wonderful session. She is improving with verb/verb conjugation recall. Good work. Student 2 has been doing very well with vocab recall. I believe both students know more than they think, and I would like to work with them more directly on building confidence with Spanish.

Spanish Tutoring review by Patricia in Reading
I had a look at the student's books to become familiar with the format of the CLEP test, and we went through some of the questions in the reading/vocab part so I could gauge his level and the demands of the test. We talked about different ways and strategies to acquire vocabulary and verb conjugation, including flashcards with verb endings, sticky notes in the house, using a mirror, studying vocabulary by topics, etc. We looked at possible books to help him get the basics of the language, since some of his books are too dry and "linguisticky," and he agreed to look for a high school type of textbook. We did some basic speaking and we agreed to use the CLEP book in future sessions, as well as work on more strategies and clarify grammar points as needed. He can probably spend 2h/day working on vocab and grammar. It's good to know that he can speak French, because this will really help him with Spanish. Before the next session I'll email him some websites with vocabulary and quizzes.

We reviewed the direct and indirect object, which is a difficult topic for the student. We need to practice it more until he fully understands it and comprehends it.

This was our first session, and I got to know the student and his needs for a Spanish tutor. We decided it was best to review everything in his book unit by unit to bring him up to speed. We started with greetings, numbers, expressing origin, and common classroom phrases. I also introduced a few tips and encouraged note taking. He's a very quick learner.
