Spanish Tutoring review by Neicea in Cambridge
On 10/26 at 10am, the student and I began today's session which covered the periodic table of elements and a bit of Spanish review. Using an excellent online supplement, I extensively quizzed him on the first 20 elements - their name, atomic number, and corresponding symbols. He should perform very well on Monday's quiz! We also reviewed the use of indirect object pronouns and "gustar". He provided a few sentences that his teacher had dictated for translation. Today, we translated and discussed the grammatical structure of these sentences and all relevant vocabulary. Great job, Larson!

Today we did a practice test. The student did a great job. I checked answers as she chose and encouraged her to go with her instinct because she is usually correct. We wrote down vocabulary that she did not recognize and will review. We also made a point of recognizing verb tenses to help narrow down answer choices. Our goal for her test date is mid-November. She needs to continue to review verb tenses to gain confidence.

The girls had done a great job with their homework of labeling rooms and furniture around the house. We covered vocabulary and cultural context around Dia de los Muertos. We also reinforced some of the vocabulary from last week, and made a list of other vocab words used today that were not included on the list I provided. The homework for this week is to watch videos (I will email the links) about the parts of the body and label the drawing I provided.

I met with Student K first. We covered the names of different rooms of a house and what activities might take place there. She practiced her pronunciation by repeating after me while reading from a handout, and then reinforced her knowledge by filling in the names of rooms from a word bank. We covered some verb conjugation, as this seems to be of particular interest to her. With Student W, we covered a chapter from his Spanish textbook he uses at school. We discussed the proper way to introduce yourself, the spelling and pronunciation of months and days, in addition to numbers up to 20. Both students were extremely well mannered and eager to learn. I look forward to working with them next weekend.
