LSAT Tutoring review by Ryan in Reading
The student and I began by working through a complete logical reasoning section of the test. She is still struggling to identify wrong answer choice types and also formulate a criteria/prediction as she goes through the answer choices. We went over the questions she missed in detail and illustrated the strategies needed to find the right answers for each question type. At the end of the session, we worked through some logic games. I illustrated the two games we worked on and helped her formulate some deduction when needed. We went over the questions she struggled with in great detail.

The student and I worked on a humanities section. I also introduced her to illustration questions. These are generally solved by choosing the most easily defended answer choice that is often saying the least. Finally, we worked on point of misinterpretation questions. Next session, we will check her progress on recent tests and work on a production line type of logic game of the type that may be becoming more frequent.

The student and I spent today's session going over basic algebra. We covered equalities, inequalities, and simultaneous equations. He seemed comfortable with that material, but had a problem when we started to get to quadratics. I asked him to spend a significant amount of time using the online prep site over the next few days brushing up his algebra skills and to catch up on assignments from the past few sessions. Next session, we will discuss quadratics.

Our subject for today was combinatorics, with a bit of probability and interest calculations worked in for good measure. We spent the last thirty minutes on the essay, which isn't something she should worry about in general, but that she just wanted a bit of advice on.

We reviewed his verbal homework. We then finished the geometry section on GMAT Prep. His homework is to carry on doing the verbal chapters, finish up the algebra questions, and begin his geometry review.

We started with an assessment of where he is at and where he wants to be, followed by outlining a general study plan. Then, we went into the general strategy for sentence corrections and began learning about independent clauses and dependent clauses. He will be studying his prep books until next time.
