Biography
...In college, I double majored in History and Religion, adding my secondary Social Studies teacher's license as well. I was not drawn into those subjects by facts, dates, or feelings, but by the stories contained within. Those stories provided the backdrop to all of the great achievements of ancient civilizations as well as providing examples from which to learn what to do or what not to do. In teaching my own students, I focus on...

Biography
I recently finished graduate school in Classics, which is the study of Latin and ancient Greek. Prior to that point, I taught high school Latin for two years. I have also tutored college students in writing. I am available to tutor most subjects, though my specialties are foreign language (German, Spanish, and Latin) and test prep. I teach by asking students the right questions so that they learn the method of finding the right answers.

...capacity or another. Professionally, I've worked at various ad agencies. Personally, I've had articles published in athletics magazines, wrote for a dorky hip hop blog for five years, dabbled in short fiction, and have been focusing most of my recent efforts on stand-up comedy (I have ten minutes of literary jokes and I'll bite my thumb at anyone who says they're too niche). In any pursuit, whether it be as a student-athlete or as an...

CLEP Western Civilization II: 1648 to the Present Tutoring FAQ
A required, introductory course in Western Civilization can seem like a waste of time if you already took classes in literature, history, and the arts in high school. The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam on Western Civilization II: 1648 to the Present provides you with a chance to use the knowledge you have previously gained, to get college credit for just such a course, by taking one ninety-minute test. Just because you may have covered the material on this CLEP exam in previous classes does not mean that recalling and applying what you have learned will come easily on exam day. The CLEP exam covers history, philosophy, economics, literature, and politics over a period of nearly four hundred years within the broadly defined Western world. Since you want your time and investment to be worthwhile, a good option is to enlist the help of a CLEP Western Civilization II tutor who can make sure you know the respective material and exam structure.
The exam's format consists of one hundred and twenty multiple-choice questions that do not adhere to a chronological or thematic order, instead jumbling topics and time periods together. Additionally, the test asks you to make connections and see patterns in historical and philosophical thought that go beyond superficial knowledge of events and figures. A passing understanding of the French and Industrial Revolutions does not suffice when attempting to excel on this exam; careful review is necessary. Learning and reviewing both the historical facts and the analytical skills tested on the exam through independent study can be an uphill climb, so it would serve you best to find someone to give you a little help. CLEP Western Civilization II tutoring can give you the help you need.

Recent CLEP Western Civilization II: 1648 to the Present Tutoring Session Notes
Retested the student on assessment test reading passages. He improved his score dramatically. Had 8/10 on both passages. On the Science section, he only had one wrong on each section, thus projecting to be at a 31 for the Science test. We also went over missed concepts on the mathematics portion of his mid-term diagnostic.
Topics covered include math practice problems regarding algebra and triangles, sentence completion problems, and passage reading. Progress achieved was practice with writing and reading, and a clearer understanding of how to approach algebra based math problems.
We graded and discussed an essay that the student wrote and focused on how he could improve his writing while saving time to further elaborate on more examples for his argument. Also graded a couple sections each of mathematics and critical reading sections.
The student and I began by going over two sets of comparison passages. I reminded her of the strategy for picking keywords from questions, and I also taught her to reword the question and to make up her own answer before selecting an answer choice. We then went over geometry and algebra concepts found on the assessment test with accompanying practice problems.
- Discussed goals/objectives with mom and student
- Practiced assessment test math questions to assess baseline understanding
- Practiced assessment test writing questions to assess baseline understanding

For this session we zeroed in on the writing section, going over a list of commonly used grammar concepts and some strategies specific to each question type. after that, we did a practice section, and went over the results. The sentence improvement had improved. As the client was comfortable and confident with her essay, which was an 8, we focused on the multiple choice section. Near the end of the session she did the final multiple choice section for the practice test, and factoring in her previous essay score, she scored in the 570-610 range! Next session we will hopefully either focus on one of the other two sections, as well as touching back on the writing to make sure it stays fresh.
