About the class
Learn to draw animated animals with a real DreamWorks animator! Students will draw along with animator Monique Miranda and create their own drawing of the lovable hippo, Gloria, from the hit TV series DreamWorks Madagascar: A Little Wild. Through the live draw-along they’ll learn how animators draw and add personality to animal characters, including the importance of seeing action lines, techniques for deconstructing large animals into common shapes, and the art of adding a “wack factor” to make characters lovable. Bring pencils, paper, a creative spirit, and a love for adorable animals to this live art session certain to put a smile on your face and a new masterpiece on your refrigerator.
During class, you’ll learn about the tools that animators use to draw animals so that they look both realistic and lovable. One of those tools is using photos of real animals to help deconstruct them into shapes and action lines. Linked below is a set of animal images that your instructor, Monique, will break down during class. Feel free to have these up on your screen during class, or even to print them out, so that you can refer to these images as you draw your own Gloria.
