I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

As a passionate educator with a Bachelor's degree in Broad Field Social Studies from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, I have experience teaching middle school social studies, including Human Geography, US History, and World History. I believe in building strong relationships with my students to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. My teaching philosophy emphasizes project-based learning, allowing students to collaborate and explore historical connections actively. I am particularly enthusiastic about early U.S. history and geography, helping students relate to the past through their own experiences. I find immense joy in making history relatable and exciting, and I strive to inspire my students to appreciate the world around them. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy traveling, hiking and being outdoors, visiting museums, and reading about different cultures and historical events.

Hobbies

I’m passionate about lifelong learning and enjoy a variety of activities that keep me curious and engaged. In my free time, I love listening to podcasts and audiobooks—favorites include And That’s Why We Drink and Radio Rental. I’m an avid reader, especially of nonfiction (history, environmentalism, people studies), historical fiction, and fantasy genres. I enjoy spending time outdoors—whether hiking, kayaking, walking, or exploring new places. I also enjoy visiting local coffee shops and bookstores, traveling, and attending live music events. I’m especially drawn to topics related to nature, sustainability, and the environment, and I'm always up for a good documentary or docuseries (big fan of anything by David Attenborough or in the true crime and history genres). Other favorite pastimes include cooking, coloring, listening to music, and learning about sharks (yes, sharks!).
