Certified Tutor
As a passionate educator with a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Appalachian State University, I have decades of experience in tutoring and classroom teaching, primarily focusing on physics and the physical sciences. My approach to tutoring is centered around building trusting relationships with students, which fosters an environment where they feel safe to ask questions and engage in intellectual risk-taking. I utilize strategies like multiple intelligences and graphic organizers to tailor my lessons to individual needs, ensuring that each student can grasp complex concepts at their own pace. My goal is to make physics accessible and enjoyable, transforming the common perception of the subject into a positive experience. I also enjoy astronomy and often incorporate real-world applications to spark curiosity. I look forward to helping students achieve their academic goals and develop a lifelong love for learning.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my family. I'm also an avid fitness enthusiast, a kayak fisherman, and I work at a local hardware store where I stay active and engaged in my community.

Degree: Appalachian State University - Bachelor's, Physics
I am passionate about helping students because I’ve seen how personalized guidance can transform frustration into confidence and curiosity. Supporting learners as they discover their own potential is not just rewarding—it’s what keeps me energized and committed to education. With nearly three decades of experience as a high school science teacher, I’ve worked with students of all levels, from those needing extra help to those seeking greater academic challenge. My teaching experience includes AP Physics 1 (Algebra-based), general Physics, Technical Physics (also known as Principles of Technology 1 & 2), Physical Science, Earth and Environmental Science, Astronomy, and middle grades mathematics. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate how varied learning styles can be, and I pride myself on adapting instruction to meet individual needs. I earned my degree in physics from Appalachian State University and have been a Nationally Certified Teacher. While my formal classroom teaching career spanned many years, I’ve continued to tutor and mentor students beyond the classroom. I’ve also homeschooled my own children from kindergarten through high school, further expanding my experience in one-on-one instruction. I tutor a range of subjects, including AP Physics 1, general and technical Physics, Physical Science, Earth and Environmental Science, Astronomy, and middle school math. Physics remains my favorite subject to tutor because it teaches students how to think critically and make sense of the world around them. There’s nothing quite like watching a student grasp a challenging concept and apply it with confidence. My teaching philosophy centers on building strong conceptual understanding first, then reinforcing learning with practical examples and problem-solving. I emphasize patient, step-by-step guidance and encourage students to ask questions freely. I also value connecting academic content to students’ everyday lives to make learning more relevant and engaging. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my family. I’m also an avid fitness enthusiast, a kayak fisherman, and I work at a local hardware store where I stay active and engaged in my community.
