Certified Tutor

Hello, I'm Madeline! I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and I've been tutoring students in elementary to college for over five years. I specialize in a variety of subjects, including all biological sciences, general chemistry, math up to Algebra 2 and Geometry, and ELA.

I believe students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and encouraged to ask questions or make mistakes. That's why I always celebrate their wins, no matter how small, and many of my students continue working with me year after year. I meet students where they are, adapt to their learning style, and help them build their skills and confidence in subjects.

In addition to tutoring, I've taught middle and high school science and ELA at a local homeschool enrichment program, and worked as a naturalist for a local nonprofit. In both roles, I designed engaging, hands-on lessons and labs in biology, ecology, chemistry, essay writing, and more. That experience really helped me strengthen my ability to work with students in group settings, keep various attention spans engaged, and make complex subjects feel approachable and fun.

Outside of academics, I've been a YA fantasy writer for the past five years, which has kept my skills in proofreading, editing, and storytelling sharp. I've received strong praise from my English professors, who've described my writing as thoughtful, clear, and beyond my years. They've also recommended me as a tutor to others!

Whether you're looking for help with test prep, building confidence and foundational skills, improving writing and reading comprehension, or gaining a better understanding of a tough subject, I'll support you every step of the way and work with you until we accomplish your goals.

Hobbies

I've always been an avid reader, so it should come to no surprise that I've been a YA Fantasy writer for five years. I've learned a lot about story structure and conventions, crafting compelling characters and plot lines, the publishing process, and even enhanced my proofreading and editing skills. Having grown up in the lush PNW with dirt wedged beneath my fingernails and the woods as my playground, I *naturally* love exploring the environment around me. Florida is vastly different from the west coast, so I enjoy learning about the different species in my area and teaching others about the importance of protecting them. I also volunteer for organizations that help the environment and foster for my local animal shelter!
