John: North Richland Hills tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of New York University, where I earned my BA in Journalism and History, and am currently pursuing my MFA in Creative Writing at Texas State University. As part of my MFA, I've spent the last two years teaching undergraduate writing and composition courses in Texas State's first-year English program, which focus on academic essay writing, rhetoric, and research skills. As an instructor, my approach centers on encouraging my students to discover the topics and arguments that genuinely interest them, after which I provide them with the knowledge and guidance required to write about these topics clearly, concisely, and confidently. I believe that the first and most important step any student needs to take to improve their academic skills is to realize that their thoughts on the topic at hand are valuable and worthy of the hard work it takes to get them out of their head and onto the page. Getting to see this process take place and hearing at the end of it what they have to say is extremely rewarding, both for the student and for myself. Essay Writing is my forte as an instructor, but I also tutor in subjects including English, Literature, History, and Test Prep.
