Matthew: Manhattan tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of Haverford College with a B.S. in Mathematics with a focus on Applied Math. I have an extensive history of being a tutor and teaching assistant. Most recently, I served as a Teaching Assistant at Haverford College where I tutored college students in Calc II, Calc III (Multivariable Calculus), Discrete Dynamical Systems, and Linear Algebra. My experience also includes tutoring Hispanic students struggling in math, science, and literature at El Centro Hispano in Carrboro, NC, and working at the Mathnasium Learning Center in Chapel Hill, NC to coach K-12 students in different levels of mathematics. I have also privately tutored students to prepare for Math and Grammar SAT exams and high school mathematics.
I'm most passionate about tutoring in mathematics and how it can be applied in STEM fields such as astronomy as well as machine learning and differential modeling. I prefer to tutor by ensuring an easygoing, friendly, and collaborative environment, and using a step-by-step approach for math problems. This ensures my students feel comfortable and confident at each stage of solving the problem. After walking through practice problems, they are able to see the overall strategies that are applied to other math problems.
