I am a graduate of Oxford University, where I received my Master's degree in Latin and Ancient Greek Languages. I also hold a bachelor's degree in Classical Languages from Hamilton College. Since my graduation I have worked at the Ashmolean museum cataloguing Roman coins, and this fall I will begin pursuing a doctorate in Historical Linguistics, again at Oxford.
I have broad experience tutoring Latin and Ancient Greek reading, translation, and writing, as well as ESL for adult learners. I am currently working towards my TEFL certification as well. Finally, I am very familiar with the English reading and writing sections of the SAT and ACT, and can help students improve their scores in these areas.
As a teacher, I am most passionate about Latin. I specialize in the historical pedagogy of Latin and its grammar. Much of my own research has focused on how our understanding of grammar and teaching methods have changed over the last 2000 years. I always aim to cater to students' individual interests and needs, but it is a special treat when students want to dig deeper into the history of the language. "Why" questions are my favorite because they allow me to give students a deeper understanding of the patterns that form a language, which is often a more effective teaching tool than simple memorization.
