Kevin: La Grange tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education. I have a mathematics major and a minor in physical education. I recently graduated from Western Governors University with my Master of Science, Curriculum and Instruction. I have been teaching high school students for the last 12 years at Bay City Western High School. While there I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Physical Education, Lifetime Sports and Advanced Fitness. While teaching these classes I have been running an after school math tutoring center for any student. I have tutored students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. I am most passionate about teaching math to all students. Within these classes I have taught both the gifted and talented students as well as the remedial math students. It is my experience in my years of teaching that students learn best through a modeling approach. The phrases I do, We do, and You do are how I model my classroom as well as when I tutor students. Specifically in tutoring, I like to see how much the student knows before I interjet. I also like to see what study skills that they already have prior to me helping them. This may include looking at their notes, looking through the book for examples, as well as what sites you can look at on the internet when you are alone. I like to make my students think about the problem before I help them through the problem. In my spare time I enjoy reading, working out, coaching football, and maintaining my house.
