After retiring from a multi-faceted fast paced career, I now live in the more peaceful semi-rural environs of Kentucky. I am embarking upon a new chapter in the epic tale that is my life to establish a freelance writing, editing, and proofreading business. I feel strongly that tutoring at Varsity Tutors dovetails with these goals and creates a definite space allowing me to share my skills with others. My special areas of expertise are: multiple subjects at the elementary school level, writing, reading, math, English, history, theatre, social studies, art, politics and current events, science, and also all levels of test preparation. I am skilled in educating students with Developmental Disabilities with an emphasis in Autism. My credentials include: a Level 1 Education Specialist Instruction Credential: moderate/severe (an MA equivalent license; and an invited Life Member of the Honor Society Phi Kapp Phi) from California State University, Long Beach, CA, a BA in Psychology (graduated with Distinction) from San Diego State University, San Diego, CA, an AA in Theatre Arts (awarded the Phillips Award) from Santa Ana College, Santa Ana, CA, and several iterations of a P30 Substitute Teaching Permit. Overall, I have been a classroom teacher, a substitute teacher, and a Community Trainer with the United Cerebral Palsy Association of San Diego, for a combined total of 24 years working in the profession. I enjoy seeing the people I help prosper and succeed. I aspire to be a blessing to others in all that I do, and remind myself that we do not exist only to seek satisfaction and enjoyment in our own lives, but to facilitate the success and happiness of others. I look forward to meeting and working with my new students.

I am interested in photography and art, and I have had my photographs exhibited in curated and solo gallery shows. I have also successfully had the artwork of my adult students with Developmental Disabilities shown and sold in gallery shows. I am interested in plants and animals--nature, I am interested in the weather and operate my own little precipitation observation station as part of CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network reporting data to NOAH. I am interested in history both ancient and modern. As part of that history I trace family trees and demonstrate the microcosm of history that they reveal. I enjoy interacting with my 4 cat companions, and have had rabbits, hamsters, goldfish, and birds as pets. I enjoy creative writing, drawing in charcoal and pen & ink, and painting in water colors, and pastels. I also enjoy gardening and spending time with my flowers. I love hiking, and also searching the terrain for dinosaur fossils, and archaeological artifacts. I like to sew and can create clothing without a pattern. I like vegetarian cooking, and travel. Sometimes, I like just sitting at home with a nice cup of hot tea, coffee, or lemonade. I love reading, and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
