My focus is on getting high school students ready for University: Higher Level Critical Thinking and Exam Prep: SAT, ACT, College Application Essays, Creative Writing, and Academic Writing. Advanced ESL students. Reading Excellence.

I spent a several years working for the tutoring company C2 Education, a startup begun by two Harvard graduates, which is focused almost exclusively on tutoring standardized tests. I spent six hours a day providing strategies and strengthening student scores in the SAT and the ACT exams. It is rare, it turns out, to find a tutor with specialized training in teaching composition, essays and creative writing.

When I was ten, my brothers and I moved to Switzerland. This taught me compassion for students who struggle with language and learning. It taught me to understand the mechanics of why people may develop learning disabilities. It taught me to enjoy interplay of cultural differences. My Bachelors Degree is in French Language and Literature. I have studied French and German since I was nine.

As a writer since before I can remember, I am passionate about teaching people to use writing to make learning easy. It helps you organize your ideas. It gives you new confidence in your own voice, ideas and critical thinking skills. The icing on the cake? A lot of practice with writing makes you effortlessly more articulate.

If you want a tutor who emphasizes independent learning, I do so by encouraging students to think with the same values that govern good journalism: look at all sides of the issue. This also happens to be the skill set of naturally resilient people.

I emphasize writing because, it fosters independent students, resilience in tough times AND a richer enjoyment of the life of the mind, of learning itself. I offer students concrete feedback on their writing, so that they know what to do to improve as writers. This is something that is impossible to find in in high school English classes or even in AP English classes because the student/teacher ratio is too high. I also provide guidance in Metacognitive journaling for improved study skills as practices which reinforce confidence, critical thinking and learning overall.
