I am a facilities/manufacturing engineer for Northrop Grumman. I received my Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from George Mason University in December of 2024 and am currently working on my Masters in Construction Engineering. Math is a part of my every day life!
When it comes to helping students understand math, I believe two things: One, there is NO SUCH THING as a dumb question. Two, math should be fun! As a tutor, my job is not to bore students with extra school time outside of the 6+ hours they have probably already spent for the day. My job is to help reduce anxieties about falling behind in math classes during the day so that one day, the student can get to a point where math is second nature and not a cause for stress. I use lots of pictures, color association, diagrams, charts, and specialize in contextualization of problems (AKA making the student understand why the math is important and where they are likely to use it in real life). I have been tutoring for about 6 years now and have found that my default style is to be very interactive with the student and make them engage with me through lots of examples. My favorite subjects to teach are Algebra, pre-calculus, and Calculus I.
I love CrossFit! Throwing heavy weights over my head and climbing tall ropes is my favorite part of the day. I also enjoy running, reading, and going home to visit my family as much as possible!
