I have been teaching diverse groups of learners from middle schoolers to graduate students for almost 20 years now. My first MA in English and Spanish Linguistics I received from the Oldest School of Education in Russia in 2004. After that, I applied for a doctorate program at the same university with the purpose to immerse into academia, understand the theories and principles of teaching on a more profound level, as well as to teach college students. I worked at the same university for 4 years as an associate professor of English.
In 2015 I relocated to the US as an international student seeking an MA in TESOL. In 2017, I accepted a job offer as a middle school ELA teacher and worked in this capacity for a year. In 2018, I decided to return back to academia and enrolled in the Ph.D. program at UNM. Currently, I am in the process of preparation of my research that explores socio-cultural mentoring of adult ESL learners.
I have always been passionate about helping students as it is through their academic development and through being supported our society can get better.
Throughout my career, I have taught Business English, English for Specific Purposes (Geography, Math, Art), General English, English Language Arts in middle school. I have also tutored Russian as a Foreign Language, ESL, and academic writing. At this time, my favorite professional activity is tutoring writing and providing my students with feedback on their writing assignments, particularly considering that in this time of my academic career I write a lot.
When working with my students I always approach them with care and support to their academic and life situations and try to accommodate any needs they may have. I am passionate when explaining the material and always make sure that even the most challenging material becomes understandable and clear to my students through my scaffolding.
