Certified Tutor

I earned my Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in English from the University of Southern Mississippi. My honors college thesis in biology field research won awards at the USM Undergraduate Research Conference in 2013. I completed coursework at USM for the Masters of English Literature program. In 2015, I successfully defended my thesis which examines the New York School and postwar American culture.
My experience with tutoring began in 2005 when I tutored my first student in pre-algebra. For the rest of high school and into graduate school, I continued to work one-on-one and in small groups with students of all ages in many subjects, especially math up to algebra, chemistry, English, proofreading, research paper consultation, and test prep. My proofreading and writing skills were sharpened in graduate school from my experience as a research assistant and through working with peers on our various writing requirements.
Since I left school, I have spent time traveling and volunteering for social and environmental justice groups and also working various jobs as needed. After the pandemic began, I have turned my focus back to academics and want to embrace education as a tool for combating ignorance and as an opportunity to help others. Because I have had the privilege of time at home, I have spent time reviewing core curriculum and subjects I love. I have been working informally with a student in my life as we navigate virtual learning. My tutoring style is friendly, professional, and adaptable to the needs and personality of the particular student. I take assignments seriously and carefully review the material at hand to prepare for as productive a session as possible. Overall, my academic, professional, and life experiences are multifaceted and multidisciplinary, and this allows me versatility in tutoring.
