Hi, I'm Marissa! I graduated magna cum laude from DePaul University with a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and a minor in Biology. I am also beginning my Masters in Biotechnology through Northwestern University in September. My approach for tutoring is to ensure students gain a deep understanding of the material and are able to apply their knowledge to practice problems that are relative to course material. I will begin by explaining the material to students and making sure all of their questions are answered. I also like to articulate the material in various formats since everyone has a slightly different learning style. This includes concept maps, outlines of notes, pictures, and analogies. After the student has gained a sufficient understanding of the material, I will give them practice problems to apply this information to. If students have specific practice problems from course material, I can also help them with these questions. Of course, my method of instruction can be adjusted to meet the student's needs.

I have two years of tutoring experience in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biology. I would work with students weekly or biweekly to review material from their courses and assist them in preparing for tests and exams. Most of my tutoring was done in person for students at DePaul University, but the past few months I have gained more experience with tutoring online. The students I have tutored saw significant progress in their understanding and success in courses. I would be happy to provide any references if interested.

I enjoy working with students and seeing them progress. I am very flexible in my methods and adjust my tutoring approach to fit the exact needs of each student. As a recent college graduate, I understand the stress of balancing many difficult courses; so, I want to assist other students to the best of my ability. I also have experience with the new online format of classes that most schools have transitioned to, so I look forward to sharing my strategies with other students that are making that adjustment.
