The attainment of knowledge has always been elemental to me over the course of my entire life. The realisation eventually grasps one, however, that the knowledge and conceptions in one's head are of little importance unless they can be shared with others. Thus, if not for altruistic reasons, I find teaching to be extremely important to myself. Furthermore, however, I greatly enjoy easing people out of the difficulties that come with learning any challenging subject; I find that I am able to explain abstract, complex concepts well through analogies and similar methods, which, I find, is how I myself learn best as well. My hope is to engage students in such a way that their knowledge, and desire for knowledge of the subject goes beyond the particular academic circumstances they are in.
Lastly, Nietzsche on the greatness of Greek and Roman culture: "All the prerequisites to a learned culture, all the methods of science, were already there; man had already perfected the great and incomparable art of reading profitably that first necessity to the tradition of culture, the unity of the sciences". In this vein, I believe that teaching careful and thoughtful reading is one of the most important assets that a pedagogue can give to a student, and simultaneously one that is often lost, particularly at a time when text is consumed in such a rapid fashion. I will always place an emphasis on it.
