I believe strongly that every student can learn and it's my job to work with students to figure out how they learn best.
I graduated from Franklin Central High School in 2009, from Franklin College in 2013 with a B.A. in Journalism and from IUPUI in 2016 with a B.A. in History.
I currently work as an Instructional Assistant at Westlane Middle School, in Washington Township, where I support students in math, language and reading. I work, by-in-large, with students one-on-one or in small group, so I have about a year in a tutor-like setting. I also have extensive working with both high school and middle school students because I've been involved in my church's youth group for more than 10 years now.
While I can tutor middle school-level math, reading and literature, I prefer to tutor Social Studies' subjects and writing. I believe strongly that the importance of History, as a subject, lies in being able to see oneself in not only the historical record, but also the future of this country and the world. I want students to realize they're part of the past and they can significantly influence the future.
My teaching style is laid back and tends to be hands off. While I may do a problem to show a student how it's done, I prefer to let them make their own mistakes, then we can circle back to correct or adjust them.
My interests outside of tutoring include comics, books, collecting vinyl records, playing board games and playing the guitar.
