I enjoy the opportunity to mentor others using lessons I've learned from my own time in school. I graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, a major that requires a great deal of critical reading, writing, and most of all, thinking. I use what I learned from my study of philosophy to tailor my tutoring strategies to the individual student, making sure they have a clear understanding of why I'm structuring their lessons in a particular way, rather than having them just blindly running through practice exercises.
My first formal introduction into tutoring others was in high school, when my English teacher asked me to tutor her daughter. I have always been top of my class in subjects related to reading and writing, and I was flattered and happy to have my first paying job.
In my experience, many students study in a very inefficient way. My approach is to keep students motivated by using our time intelligently. I build their confidence and understanding starting from the most fundamental concepts, and in the end they master subjects more fully and more quickly than they would have by rushing through them.
