Hello! My name is Ben Gagne-Maynard, and I currently live in Nashville, TN. I am an experienced educator and advocate for educational equity who deeply believes that all students have the ability to own their individual learning, accomplish their academic and personal goals, and develop the skills necessary in order to be successful. I come from a family of educators, and I have always felt most at home while teaching and learning with others. I received B.A. in History and International Relations from Boston University in 2016, where I graduated with Honors, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Despite my success in college, I had to work incredibly hard in high school in order to convince myself of my own abilities, find my inner motivation, and build the study habits that allowed me to be successful. I believe that strong relationships and goal setting are both key to academic success, and I look forward to sharing my story and setting high expectations for my students.

After graduating college, I decided to bring my love of learning and passion for working with people into the classroom, as I became a Middle School math teacher in Hartford, CT. During the time I spent teaching 5th and 6th grade math, my students were able to achieve more than 1 year of academic growth on average, and I always placed an equal emphasis on hard work, independence, and constant positivity. I am incredibly excited to share my knowledge and love of multiple subject areas with students as a Varsity Tutor. I'm really looking forward to helping every student I work with build the confidence and skills that will allow them to accomplish their goals and know what success feels like.

Lastly, I believe learning should feel like an engaging, fun, and altogether human process! I love making learning fun, and I bring my own personality into my work. I love to run, bike, hike, swim and generally do anything outdoors, and I'm working on playing for Nashville's very own Professional Ultimate Frisbee Franchise(it's true!). When I'm not learning or exercising, I love to play music, spend time with friends and family, and travel as much as I can.

I can't wait to help you meet your academic and personal goals, and I'm looking forward to working as hard as I can to help you get where you want to be!
