My name is Heyde Makimaa. I have recently graduated from Barrett the Honors College at Arizona State University with high distinction in Microbiology. My background includes living in six different countries and speaking four languages with varying degrees of fluency. When I finish my graduate and doctoral studies, I hope to become a researcher in the genetics of pathological agents including viruses and cancerous cells. Over the past few years, I've been strengthening my researching skills through my work on various projects at different colleges I have attended. As part of Honors thesis, I researched and builded a prototype for a low-cost and portable device which injunction with an immunosignature chip and a cell-phone camera can be used to detect diseases such as Hepatitis B. Eventually, I would like to become a bioinformatician or viral genetics researcher and work at the CDC or similar entities overseas.
