Certified Tutor
Hi all! My name is Arielle. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2018 with a BS in Computer Science, and am currently a neuroscience PhD student in Portland OR.
I have had the pleasure of being a private and peer tutor for most of my high school and college career. I have tutored students from elementary school through college in a variety of subjects, including teaching study skills and test prep. I also love to edit essays and work with people on conveying their ideas more clearly and eloquently!
In sessions, I generally ask guiding questions and try different approaches to the same problem until something fits and makes sense to the student. Learning is about more than being able to solve the challenge in front of you; it's about walking away from a session feeling like you can tackle that challenge on your own, with confidence, the next time you see it. If we're talking about study and test prep skills, I focus on time management with self compassion and on understanding what the test writer wants from the student. And with essay editing, I like to have a conversation about the ideas behind the essay and workshop them into writing until they come across in a way that the student is proud of.
Outside of learning and tutoring, I love going to shows of any kind, trying new delicious foods, roller skating, swimming, drinking hot chocolate, and reading fiction. I love learning about people's passions and getting to know them!
