I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

My name is Daniel Leach and I am a tutor, freelance writer, and experienced teacher of AP and IB History, English Language Arts, IB Theory of Knowledge, Economics, etc. It has been my great privilege to experience people, places, and events across the globe. The most important lesson I have gleaned from my travels is that for all of our superficial differences, people are much more similar than they are different.

Mark Twain once said that history may not repeat itself, but it rhymes! This sentiment mirrors my perspective exactly. All experience teaches us something, even if the lesson learned is simply what not to do! As the past shapes the present and the present becomes the future, how could the study of history be unimportant? An avid student and aficionado of the written word, I also enjoy writing and teaching literature as the process of reading involves meeting the author halfway; accordingly, each engaged reader will form his or her own unique look, feel, and voice for every character they encounter. This cooperative alchemy stimulates and exercises the imagination in a way that films, television, video games, etc., simply cannot do.

As for why I chose to make teaching my livelihood, I was fortunate enough to learn from several wonderful teachers when I was young and I like to think that I carry some of the wisdom and expertise they shared with me to this day. Enthusiasm is contagious. It has been my experience that when an educator's passion for their subject is dynamically conveyed through an artful blend of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies, student learning is the outcome.
