I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I recently received my master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at MIT. Previous to that, Icompleted my undergraduate studies at MIT, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with aconcentrationin Control, Instrumentation, and Robotics. As a mentor and user coordinator at a student-run machine shop at MIT, I supervised shop users to ensure safety and appropriate handling of tools and managed a team that ran orientation sessions for all new members. I also trained new members on proper operation and safety for 3D printers, waterjets, laser cutters, desktop CNC mills, and vinyl cutters. During my undergraduate studies at MIT, I was a lab assistant (similar to a TA) for a Mathematics for Computer Science class. I also contributed video tutorial content to the Mechanics of Structures class on the edX platform.
I believe that education is a valuable asset for success and confidence in life, and want to do everything I can to empower students with the tools they need to learn and perform. I tutor math (from pre-algebra to college calculus), physics (mechanics, E/M, structures), engineering (MATLAB, SolidWorks, etc.), English, and test prep (SAT, ACT, and GRE). I genuinely enjoy the subjects that I tutor, and find them interesting and exciting. I believe that a true understanding of subject material naturally leads to excitement and interest in the subject, so I want to guide students to a deep understanding of what they are studying. Instead of just teaching students to plug and chug to get results, I enjoy working with them to make sure they truly grasp concepts and can derive results based on their own understanding.
My favorite subject to tutor is physics, because that is the subject that originally inspired me to be an engineer. The fact that you can calculate and predict physical phenomena (like how fast a wheel will roll down a ramp or how far a pumpkin will travel when launched at a specific angle and speed) and then alter parameters to achieve a desired result is pretty awesome!
To give my brain a break, I love physical activity, in particular team sports. In my free time, you can almost always find me somewhere in Boston playing soccer, ultimate frisbee, or rocking out to music while training freestyle soccer juggling. And since it seems like running a marathon is a rite of passage for people living in Boston, I am happily (for now!) training for my first marathon.
