I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

90% of what we learn in tutoring is self-confidence: you can absolutely do this, and I will absolutely help you in everyway possible.

Education makes all the difference in the world. I can personally attest to this, and I have personally seen the changes it makes from working in classrooms all over the world.

I have a Masters Degree in Ideological Rhetoric, and I have a Bachelors in English Literature. I have taught ESL for the last couple of years in Saudi Arabia. This November will be my tenth year of teaching, and my nineteenth year of tutoring and volunteering with children. I have worked with children of all mixed abilities, and have taught people from the ages of one-sixties plus. I have tutored every level of English in public school, I have taught reading, public speaking, composition college courses, and yes, even graduate writing.

I have the Montessori and Reggio Emilio thought process when it comes to how people learn. If we judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will never believe itself to be smart. People all have different strengths, whether those are sports/arts/connection to nature/interpersonal skills,&etc., and we can use those strengths to make other parts of learning process easier and more accessible. Every individual can learn, and often when they dont, it is due to us not finding a way to approach it that makes them comfortable.

I believe being a teacher, much like being a student, is a lifelong and continuous process, which encompasses the ability not only to learn from an array of people and factors, but to adapt and evolve ones teaching methods based on the wants and the needs of those around you. Motivating students to become dynamic participants in the learning experience involves incorporating multifaceted and intellectually appropriate practices, which simultaneously provide both a challenge and stimulus that I believe students need for a beneficial and healthy learning environment.

Teaching is not something that just happens in the classroom. While I have spent the last few years teaching English as a Second Language in Saudi Arabia, over two years as a writing professor at Saint Petersburg College, being a private writing tutor, and have worked in a range of different classroom settings throughout the years; I believe much of my love for teaching has come from what some would call un-orthodox settings being a member of American Peace Corp, volunteering for the Red Cross, working with children who have mixed abilities both in the school system as well as for PARC, teaching parenting classes for Help-a-Child, creating new programs at non-profits to ensure learning happening at a younger agethese settings are pivotal foundations in the community that have gifted me with the knowledge that everywhere is a habitat for edification: one does not need a classroom or desks for the ability to teach, but rather the will and the drive to do as such.

I am confident that as a tutor for you or your school, I can construct a learning environment [either online or in person] that is not only student-centered, but productive and creative. I welcome the opportunity to discuss with you my ideas and qualifications.
