I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Jonathan: College Station tutor

Certified Tutor

After graduating with a B.A. in American History from Brown University in 2011, I came to New York City to pursue a career in acting. When I'm not on stage or in front of the camera, I'm tutoring students of all ages and abilities; driven by a passion for pedagogy and academic mentorship, I have accrued almost six years of tutoring experience. Through my extensive work as an English and occasional Math tutor, not to mention my participation in seminars specializing in topics ranging from learning disabilities to anxiety management, I have cultivated an ever-growing expertise in the field of learning. Whether working on standardized tests or academic curricula, I understand that no two students are alike, and I cater all of my lessons to the individual needs of my tutees.
One of my goals as a tutor is to fulfill a role that more closely resembles that of a peer, rather than being seen by my students as yet another inaccessible pedagogue; this, I believe, is one of the key components to my success with students. I strive to bond with my tutees in a way that creates a friendly and engaging atmosphereI'm always looking for moments to laugh, exchange anecdotes, and relate on a level outside of teaching. In doing so, I find that my students are less susceptible to the frequent tedium of testing and academia and instead showcase a genuine desire to succeed. To all tutoring sessions I bring patience, kindness, humor, and knowledge. I know that with the right tutor, students can approach learning as an exciting opportunity, not just an academic chore, and it is this philosophy I bring to each of my sessions.
See you in the classroom!
