When I was growing up, I was the kid who always had my nose in a book. Most kids loved playing video games and running around outside, but these never had the same appeal to me as they did my peers. Even from a young age, I possessed a voracious appetite for knowledge that I never quite learned how to satisfy. To make it worse, I was always involved in front-row fashion in things that I cared about- I have never liked enjoying things from a distance or from the backseat. This was largely exacerbated by my grandfather, a man who had taught himself everything he knew. He was a professional musician, could play multiple instruments, loved to paint and draw, and even had a pretty good conspiracy theory regarding Jack the Ripper. He encouraged me to read the books that he kept beside his chair in the living room, always asking me questions, always pushing me to really think about things the way they are instead of the way we are told they should be.
I believe that everyone has the potential to really make themselves into something, however this is an impossible task without a solid education. I hope to share with the world what my grandfather instilled in me: knowledge is the most powerful tool, and it is something we cannot go without if we want to change the world.
