My academic career has taught me the impact that a motivated, passionate and patient teacher can have on a student???s achievement. I hope to apply this understanding in my role as a tutor, and foster student learning and a connection to the subject matter with my enthusiasm and experience.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May of 2017 with a Master of Science degree in Environment and Resources. Before attending graduate school I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. During graduate school I worked as a teaching assistant where I taught undergraduates biology with an emphasis on ecology, genetics and evolution. Although biology was the subject matter of these courses, improving student writing and introducing my students to basic statistics were major focuses of my work. I worked not only with large groups of students in the classroom, but also guided individual students through the science writing process from data collection to the submission of a final paper. As a result of my teaching, I was named a Communication B Teaching Assistant Fellow in 2017, and was given the opportunity to design a workshop to train incoming T.A.s.
Outside of the professional and academic fields I am a huge soccer fan, as well as a certified nature nerd (bird watching, botany, hiking, fishing, Etc.).
