My favorite quote is by Maya Angelou. She states, "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better." This is a philosophy that applies to anyone at any age. I believe in doing the best you can, progressing and maturing as you gain knowledge and experience.

In my work history as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, student assistant, and scheduling coordinator, I am a person who implements efficient organizational skills, strong communication, and quick adaptability in my day to day work ethic. Through my volunteer work as a tutor and mentor for immigrant children, a writing assistant, and hospital volunteer, as well as Head Intern at the Burckle Place transitional housing facility for homeless women, I am familiar, comfortable, and happy interacting with a diverse group of people.

Academically, I have become an insightful, creative, and dedicated person in my years at school. I have been taking university classes since the age of fourteen and, once graduating high school, I received two Bachelor’s degrees, a certificate in Women’s Studies, and the first Advisory Council Award for Undergraduate Feminist Vision in 2014, after three years of study at university. In graduate school, I was Vice President of the Feminist Graduate Student Association, Co-Chair of the South-Eastern Women’s Association Conference Student Liaison, presented my work at a regional conference, and received the 2015 Feminist Scholarship Fund.

I am familiar with the hard work it takes to be a student, a student that participates and coordinates university events, and a student able to balance studying, working a job, and family duties. As a teacher, mentor, and tutor I can relate to and assist students who have a full schedule and want to do well in their studies.

Furthermore, as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for two years, I am familiar and comfortable working with high school and college-aged youth. In this environment, I graded assignments, provided supplementary information for course material, conducted study reviews, held office hours, maintained a spreadsheet for attendance, sent out regular emails to students, proctored exams, assisted the instructor in teaching the course, and created various assignments. With undergraduate degrees focused in writing and rhetoric, as well as a Master’s degree in a highly interdisciplinary and writing-intensive program, I am comfortable in my use of the English language and in assisting others in their efforts to do well in English.
