I found my vocation as a teacher when I moved to the United States fifteen years ago and I have been continuously teaching Spanish since then. I have taught Spanish to students of many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. I have also taught all levels, ranging from beginner to advanced. I consider myself a learner as well as a teacher. I believe in a student-centered approach to learning where students take autonomy and are responsible in their own learning process. In connection with this approach, my responsibility as a teacher is to facilitate and guide this learning process not only to increase motivation and effort from students but also recognizing different learning styles. I also believe in a teaching environment that recognizes the uniqueness of students. I love to integrate culture into the classroom. Language cannot be taught or learned independently of culture. I have always thought that learning a language changes your view of the world. I believe it makes students see things through a different lens, the lens that language and culture provide. Finally, like Charle Magne said, "To have another language is to possess a second soul."
