Certified Tutor
I am a current undergraduate and rising senior at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I chose the Gallatin program because it allows me to study the intersection of all of the subjects I love- particularly biology, chemistry, anthropology, and public health.
I began tutoring friends when I was in high school. It started not only as a way to help a friend, but also as a way for me to come to a further understanding of material that I knew would come up again in college or future. I have always found that I learn the most when teaching or, at least, speaking aloud. One of the things I love about being a tutor is that it really is a two-way street. I get to not only expand my knowledge and hear a student's thoughts, but I also get to share my love for a lot of these subjects.
My tutoring style really reflects this. I am very passionate about making sure the student feels empowered. Often, I'll ask students to stop for a second and walk me through what they are thinking in order to teach me about how they are approaching the problem. It's important to me that a student feels that the tutoring relationship is a two way street, as they already have lectures and lessons. I believe that as a tutor I am there to help guide them through the material in their own way, which can often be different than the way it is taught in a classroom.
I tutor in biology, chemistry, math, social studies, and SAT prep. I also tutor the AP subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Psychology.
Outside of tutoring, I am an avid reader and always have a book in my hand. I also biking, running, and crossword puzzles! On a Sunday morning you're most likely to find me working my way through the New York Times crossword (though, if we're being honest, I don't always make it that far) and the rest of the puzzles in the magazine.
