I graduated from Auburn University with a BA in English Literature and I'm currently enrolled in the Master's of Secondary English Education at AUM. I work as a substitute teacher at several area schools and take great pleasure in education. I spent about six years after college working in the business world and decided that I missed the academic world enough to go back to school to become a teacher. My specialty and first love is everything English: reading, critical theory, and all forms of writing (creative writing, persuasive writing, business writing, etc.). Most of my supporting coursework at AU was focused in critical literary theory and persuasive communication (pre-law tract) and my Masters work is focused in literature and education. I am drawn to English/Language Arts because I have always felt that the subject has been unfairly given a bad reputation as being overly obscure, difficult, and useless. I believe that anyone can learn to appreciate (if not enjoy) the subject because it is, or should be, the study of effective thought and communication. In other words English is the study of how we think about and discuss ________ (insert your interest here). You like football? Let me teach you how to talk about it. You dig politics? Let me tell you how to argue your point. You enjoy gardening? Let me show you how to research the best methods of organic home cultivation of a vegetable patch. There are books written on everything and you can open a discourse about anything. I'm just here to help you learn how to be effective at interpreting those books or directing those discussions.
